MAM bottles are very useful for breastfed babies because they mimic natural breasts with their skin-soft nipples. Since it is crucial to keep our babies’ health safe, MAM bottles need to be regularly cleaned and sterilized like any other standard bottle. In this article, we will give you some tips on how to easily sterilize MAM bottles using different processes and techniques. Here are some ways on how to sterilize MAM bottles

Self-sterilization

If you get yourself an anti-colic MAM bottle, you will not need to go through sterilizing processes since it is self-sterilizing. Sterilizing MAM bottles is not a challenging process; you just need to follow the next steps:

  1. The first step would be to disassemble all the parts of the bottle.
  2. Never sterilize dirty bottles. Clean all the parts in a dishwasher or with a soft brush or sponge. If you are using a dishwasher to clean the disassembled parts, be careful to set the temperature no more than sixty-five degrees.
  3. Make sure all the parts are cleaned, nicely rinsed, and thoroughly dried. The next step would be to assemble them.
  4. Measure with the protective cap and add about 20ml of cool water to the base with a silicone valve.
  5. The screw ring with the teat should be placed back and tightly screwed onto the bottle body in order to prevent water leaks.
  6. Put the protective cap on top.
  7. You can use the microwave for the sterilization process. Set the time to 3 minutes; it should be more than enough to completely sterilize one MAM bottle. With a microwave, you can sterilize for up to eight minutes a once.
  8. After you have gone through the whole process described above, open the microwave door and let the bottle cool before removing it. It will take approximately ten minutes.
  9. After you have left the bottle, air dry, assemble the parts, and you are ready to go.

Self-sterilizing has only one small disadvantage – the whole sterilizing process can be very time-consuming especially when it comes to sterilizing more than one bottle. To avoid such a painful process, we recommend you use a bottle sterilizer.

Using a bottle sterilizer

There are many types of bottle sterilizers available on the market– they range from electric, microwave, and steam bag sterilizers.

MAM bottles usually have a wide base, which makes it almost impossible to fit in any bottle sterilizer. This is why we recommend you use an electric or microwave sterilizer for baby items and MAM bottles.

Sterilizing MAM bottles using a microwave or electric sterilizer

  1. Disassembling all the bottle parts is very important since this will keep your bottle undamaged.
  2. Another very important step is to nicely clean the parts in a dishwasher or with a soft brush. Rinse and air dry when finished.
  3. Usually, sterilizers come with a user manual. There you can check how much water you need to measure and add to your sterilizer.
  4. Do not overload the sterilizer basket when putting the disassembled bottle parts in it. It is good to note that a standard microwave sterilizer can take up to six bottles at once.
  5. It will take you about five minutes to completely sterilize the bottle parts in a microwave sterilizer.
  6. After the process of sterilization is done, let the sterilizer cool for a few minutes out of the microwave.
  7. When you open the sterilizer, get the basket with the bottle parts out of it and let the water drain. After that, let them air dry using the cover of the sterilizer as a base for the basket.
  8. In case you use an electric sterilizer, the first step is to turn on the machine so that the water in the reservoir starts to heat up. The hot water will produce steam that will sterilize the disassembled bottle parts.

The best part of using an electric or microwave sterilizer is that each of them can sterilize up to six MAM bottles, and the whole process is effortless. The whole process of sterilization will take you no more than five minutes.

Coldwater sterilization

If you are looking for a quick way to sterilize the baby bottles you have. As the name suggests, cold water sterilization does not require any form of heat; therefore, you will not need a microwave or sterilizer. The first step would be to purchase a sterilizing solution or tablet from the nearby store.

  1. The baby bottles need to be disassembled in order to clean them in the dishwasher or use a soft brush. After this process, nicely rinse them.
  2. Add some tap water into a larger food-grade container.
  3. All the bottle parts will go inside the bottle, as you make sure they are entirely submerged in the water and there are no air bubbles.
  4. Add a tablet or sterilizing solution into the water as you carefully follow the instructions written on the user guide.
  5. In order to prevent the bottle parts from rising above the water, you will need a heavy lid to cover the container.
  6. Let everything remain entirely soaked in the water. Wait for about half an hour. Do everything according to the instructions written on the user guide.
  7. After the sterilization is finished, remove everything from the solution and put them on a rack to air dry. These sterilizing agents are safe for babies, which means you will not need to rinse off the bottle parts.
  8. Boiling in water

If you are looking for the easiest and quickest way to sterilize your baby bottles, you are in the right place. All you have to do is to follow the steps given below:
